Target Audience
This podcast episode is suitable for those who deal with any type of content in their work and wish to create a style guide of their own. One thing to note is that this episode does not provide a step-by-step guide on how to create a style guide. Rather, it presents information that aims to help learners determine whether a style guide will benefit their work as well as the type of style guide they should choose to create if one is needed.
Instructional Theory
This project follows Gagné's Nine Events of Instruction with a few events omitted in that the delivery system chosen is limited in allowing for real-time communication and feedback. The podcast also does not follow the exact sequence that Gagné has prescribed, which is a purposeful decision made to maintain a natural flow.
Below is the structure of the podcast episode with key instructional events addressed:
- A self introduction along with reflection questions related to the main topic (gaining attention)
- Informing the audience of what they will be able to do after listening to the podcast (stating the objectives)
- Discussing what style guides are (presenting content)
- Relating the definition of style guides to “content”, a previously learned concept (stimulating recall of prior learning)
- Presenting different types of style guides with examples (providing guidance)
- Stating the benefits of using a style guide (presenting content)
- Providing tips for creating a style guide (presenting content)
- Ending the episode with a summary and a preview of the next episode (enhancing retention)
